Katherine Davis Zatopek, 70, was born Oct. 30, 1949, in St. Louis, Mo., and left this world unexpectedly on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020 in Houston. She was the beloved daughter and only child of Anna and Ginvir (Pete) Davis.
Kathy earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 1972 and later moved to Houston where she taught elementary students at Annunciation Catholic School in Houston. She later began working for ExxonMobil Chemical Corporation where she enjoyed a successful 29-year career.
Kathy married Eugene Zatopek on Dec. 4, 1982, in Sealy and was a devoted mother to two children, Bryan Zatopek, 48, of Dallas, and Lauren Naida, 33, of Bellville. She was also an active member in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Sealy.
Kathy has visited many countries worldwide, was a skilled and talented musician playing multiple instruments including piano, guitar and banjo. She was fun-loving, always patient with others, and had a gift for giving sage and supportive advice.
Kathy retired in 2009 from ExxonMobil and had since been making the most of her life by actively traveling, making memories with her family, regularly visiting Las Vegas and taking Zumba classes with her friends. Although her favorite form of fitness was chasing after her beloved grandchildren.
Kathy passed away peacefully at VITAS Healthcare in Houston. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Eugene Zatopek of Sealy; son Bryan Zatopek and wife Heidi of Dallas; daughter Lauren Naida and husband Nathan, and grandchildren Colt and Harper Naida of Bellville. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ginvir (Pete) and Anna Davis.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18, 2020, at Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 1140 Meyer Street, Sealy, followed by fellowship and food at the Immaculate Conception Church Hall, 608 5th Street, Sealy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Stroke Association.
Kathy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her, but will be remembered eternally.
