Jonathan MacBride, passed in peace Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at the age of 74.
Jonathan worked on his family farm growing up in Pennsylvania and joined the U.S. Army at age 21. He then married Janice MacBride on New Year’s Eve 1979 and settled in Bernardo, Texas, to raise their family.
Jonathan worked in special education and served as the Director of Special Education for Austin County for 19 years. His dream retirement job was driving 18-wheelers across the country and back for the next 10 years.
Preceded in death by his mother, Cecelia MacBride. Survived by his wife Janice MacBride; he was a loving father to Jennifer Merla and Joyce Johnson, proud father-in-law to Chris Merla and Mark Johnson, and honored “Pops” to Charlie, Evan, Wesley and Zachary.
He was a brilliant man who knew something about everything and would gladly share that knowledge … he could convince you he knew even when he didn’t. Jonathan will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving husband, father, papa, educator, truck driver, volunteer firefighter, two lane black-top expert, collector of fine plastics, John Deere enthusiast, proud patriot and U.S .Army Vietnam Veteran.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at St. Roch Catholic Church – Mentz, 1600 Frelsburg Road, Alleyton, Texas 78935 at 10 a.m.
In his memory, memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or American Cancer Society, 2500 Fondren Road Suite 100, Houston, TX 77063.
