Herbert Brune


Herbert was born November 23, 1921, in Sealy, Texas to Herbert and Lula Brune. He graduated from Sealy High School and later enlisted in World War II. He was a member of the 43rd Bomb Group, 65th Squadron and was stationed pri­marily in the Philippines, and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Medal Asiatic – Pacific Medal with four 4 Bronze Stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and a Good Conduct Medal.

After WWII, he returned to Sealy where he met Marie Washam and they married in 1952. They had one daughter, Carolyn Marie and one son, James Edward, who died shortly after birth from a heart defect.

Herbert was a mem­ber of the Austin County Soil and Water Conversation District and served 29 years. He was a mem­ber of the American Legion for 45 years, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Austin County Livestock Association and was a member of the East Bernard Mason Lodge 817 for 9 years. Last year, he received the Golden Trowel Award. He has been a member of First Baptist Church, Sealy for over 45 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Lula Brune and his infant son James Edward. He is survived by his wife Marie; daughter Carolyn Gribble and husband Jim; grand­children Jennifer, Daniel and Samuel Gribble; and sister Joyce Nastoupil.

Herbert was a faith­ful, loving husband, a best friend to his daughter, a role model, teacher and support to his grandchildren and a faithful friend. He was a man of his word, but he was also a good listener. He helped many a friend going through “deep waters” by listening. He loved to work the land and this kept him vibrant into his 90’s. He is greatly loved and will be missed deeply.
