Have you ever spoken to someone about their job and thought, “I wish I would have known about a career like that when I was in school”? In Sealy ISD, we believe in giving students a global perspective on opportunity. We want students to know their unique strengths and talents, and want them to be able to apply their abilities to a future career path that will bring them excitement, joy, and success.
Being in school is such an incredible time in students’ lives. It is a time when all of the doors to opportunity remain open. Students simply have to find their passion and be prepared with the skills and courage needed to pursue it. One way we hope to broaden students’ awareness of the opportunities that are out there is to recognize the successes, accomplishments, and adventures of former students.
Beginning in the spring of 2017, Sealy ISD will annually recognize as many as six former graduates with the honor of a Distinguished Alumnus Award. The district is seeking to highlight SISD Alumni who have experienced elevated success in their careers and demonstrated a commitment to positively impacting the district, the community of Sealy, or their local community. We want our students to be proud of their roots in our district and our community. We also want students to have confidence in the strength of the foundation that Sealy ISD provides for future greatness.
We hope this step will strengthen the connectedness of our former graduates with the district and that it will promote both pride and excitement in our current students. The varied professional pursuits of our SISD graduates and the demonstration of characteristics strongly rooted in the district’s vision of creating confident, compassionate and capable individuals serve as inspiration to all stakeholders and the community.
The process of nomination for the SISD Distinguished Alumnus Award is ongoing and will be facilitated through a link on the district’s website. Those interested in making a nomination may go to www.sealyisd.com and see the “SISD Alumni” page under the Community tab. The district will consider and select the first group of recipients for the award in March of 2017.
