Dr. George E. Slater passed away at home on his beloved Texas ranch on Feb. 22, 2019, at the age of 77 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Sheffield, Pa., to Mildred Anna Erickson and George McClellan Slater on March 1, 1941.
George married Kathleen Breter in Erie, Pa., in 1965, and together they created a legacy of love in their children along with their spouses and grandchildren, Stefan, Kelly & Kellan Slater; Heather, Tim, Clay and Colten Mayo; and Heidi, Scott, Kathleen, Madison and Broden Slansky.
George is survived by his brother, James Slater, and two sisters, Mary Beckwith and Judith Sadler. He is preceded in death by his sisters Theresa Dunham and Sylvia Graham.
A memorial mass was held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 1 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 10471 Grotto Road, Frydek, TX 77474. A celebration of George’s life followed at the church hall.
