Last week, the Faith Academy Lady Knights volleyball squad improved to 2-0 in district play then had a non-district match mixed into tournament play over the weekend.
The Lady Knights finished 3-4 on the week with a silver bracket championship in their home tournament.
The week began with a Tuesday district tilt against Conroe Lifestyle, where Faith Academy swept the Lady Victors and played their best set to date in the eyes of first-year head coach Deborah Boudoin.
“We focused on our game and showed some growth and development mentally. I was proud of the girls because even in the first two sets when we were making errors, they maintained their focus,” Boudoin said. “The attitude was team-focused and positive throughout the match. We are making better choices with the ball even when execution is not quite there. I’m pleased with their development so far and can see the team that they can become.”
Chesney Johnston led the offense with four kills and had four more Lady Knights behind her with two kills apiece. The sophomore added five blocks, four assists, four digs and two aces in the district sweep. Maddie Odom racked up 13 kills, Regan Shepherd totaled five aces to go along with two kills and two digs and Tyler Johnston contributed four assists, two kills, two aces and two digs.
The Faith Academy Summer Blowout tournament hosted in Bellville was originally scheduled for August but after the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools delayed the start of the season due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 10-team tourney was pushed to last weekend.
