The Faith Academy Lady Knights traveled to Houston's Grace Christian Academy last weekend for more tournament play and came away with the runner-up trophy.
For their contributions throughout the slate of games, senior classmates Marissa Przyborski and Isabella Schoenborn were both named to the all-tournament team.
Faith got off on the right foot by allowing 16 total points to Mount Carmel over the two-set sweep to start the tournament before taking down host Grace Academy next.
Then it was Incarnate Word's junior varsity team that fell by the wayside, then High Island and Southwest Christian, setting up a championship matchup with Corum Deo.
The Lady Knights put up quite the fight but ended up on the wrong end of a pair of 25-18 set scores to finish second overall out of the 14-team tournament.
Faith head volleyball coach Josh McLain knew the final matchup was going to be a tough one but is pleased with the lessons learned.
"Overall it was another learning experience for our team. We ran into a team in the finals who has been together at a very high level for a while through club and school ball," he said. "It was a good match for us even though the outcome wasn’t in our favor. We will definitely learn from it. Playing that type of speed and power showed me where we need the most work moving forward."
That road ahead will provide ample opportunity for improvement with another tournament to close things out next week.
"The schedule is built to see lots of tough teams. It is imperative we continue to play at a high level," McLain said. "We had Houston Cypress Christian on Tuesday and they always compete at a very high level. Then we'll go to Kerrville Tivy to take on some tough public schools this weekend."
