The Faith Academy Bellville Volleyball team improved to 4-1 in District 9-A play and 11-7-3 overall with a 3-0 win over then district leader Conroe Calvary Baptist. The Lady Knights then travelled to Weimar and beat the Lady Wildcats’ Junior Varsity Purple team, 2-0.
Faith will host Kingwood Covenant Prep (3-3 District 9-A) at 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 3 before traveling to face Conroe Lifestyle Christian (5-1 District 9-A) at 6 p.m. Thursday, October 5.
“It was a good week for the girls,” Head Coach Joshua McLain said. “We played sluggish at home versus Calvary but got the needed win to stay out in front for a title run. We just have to take care of things the rest of the season and we will be fine.”
Senior middle blocker Hannah Taake helped propel the team against Conroe Calvary with an offensive spark. She lead the Lady Knights to the 25-14, 25-16, 25-12 district win.
“Everyone played their usual part but Hannah stepped up and did some things we needed her to do in order to be successful and get the win,” McLain said. “The team really pulled together and put them (Calvary) away.”
Against the Weimer Junior Varsity Purple team the Lady Knights wasted no time finishing the match. The Lady Knights took a 25-5, 25-9 win.
“We had a spot open on the schedule and it worked for us to go and play them,” McLain said. “We were able to work on things we have been adding in practice. Weimer has a good program and we have their varsity on tap in October.”
Sophomore setter Gabby Yates stepped up and took over the setting duties against Weimer JV.
“Gabby did a nice job for us,” the coach said. “With more training she will be a good piece for us and another needed option for the team as we go deeper into the season.”
