Locals win awards at Extension Education Spring Conference

Attending the District 11 Extension Education Spring Conference on April 10 the St. John Parish Hall near El Campo were Doris Glenewinkel, Jessie Kokemor, Barbara Vohs, Gladys Frank, Karen Landrum, as a guest Aubrey Landrum, and Texas A&M AgriLife FCH Agent Michelle Wright.

The meeting was conducted by District 11 Director Rachel Monday. Father Gabriel gave the invocation, the El Campo American Legion Post 251 presented the colors, and commissioner Steve Goetsch gave the welcome. Coins for Friendship were collected to benefit the 4-H camp at Brownwood. Dollars for Scholars were also collected for a scholarship for a 4-H member from District 11.

A program was given by Debra Peterson and Miranda Becher from Dee’s Nursery. They discussed container planting from logs to shoes to cigar boxes. They showed using crushed granite in the bottom of containers. They discussed how much sunshine various plants need.
