Community welcomes new city manager Merrell

New Sealy City Manager Lloyd Merrell has been on the job for about a month but says he already feels like he’s home.

Merrell served as city manager of Madisonville, Ky., for 26 years and after retirement, he relocated to The Woodlands to be closer to family. When the job in Sealy opened up, he did his homework and determined it would be a good fit for him. He has said that he thinks the city employees are doing a lot of things right, and he’d like to help guide the community into more economic development opportunities and programs to encourage local business growth.

Members of the Sealy City Council and City Secretary Dayl Cooksey hosted a welcome reception for Merrell and his wife Marsha on Saturday at Liedertafel Hall. Dozens of residents and employees from just about every city department came to meet the new manager – and there was lots of talk about the recent announcement that H-E-B Grocery recently purchased a 10.575-acre tract of land in Town Park Center on the Interstate 10 frontage road.

Merrell said he’s adjusting well to the day-to-day business at Sealy City Hall and looks forward to serving the community.

The City Council met Tuesday evening as The Sealy News was going to press but check our website and Facebook page for updates on council activity.
