Committee raising funds to honor late commissioner

A committee consisting of Austin County employees is taking donations to create a memorial park in honor of the late Commissioner Douglas King, who was killed last year in an accident.

Thank you in advance for considering a donation to the Douglas W King memorial bench/garden area.

“We are seeking donations to purchase a bench and have a small garden area which will be located at the Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 and Knox Library location in Wallis,” said coordinator Shannon Hanath. “The memorial will be a special place dedicated to Doug. We selected this location as this is where his office was, he grew up in Wallis, and he spent many hours at the park there either mowing or working on some project while watching his children play. We have chosen to keep it simple because that was Doug.”

The committee is asking for financial donations, big or small. All proceeds will go directly toward construction of the bench/garden area. Donations should be made out to Doug King Memorial Garden and can be mailed to First National Bank Wallis, 6207 Commerce Street, Wallis, TX 77485.

For more information, call Hanath at 979-865-9157.
