The Brazos Cougar football squad secured its first win within District 14-3A-D2 last Friday against the Danbury Panthers by a 21-14 score to move to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in district play.
Senior quarterback Jared Demny connected with freshman receiver Trey Gaston in the first and fourth quarters on 78- and 10-yard hookups and Demny sandwiched a 6-yard rushing score in the second quarter.
Bryson Bennett secured an interception to kill a Danbury drive in the first half but it was senior Lance Garbs who intercepted a pass from the Panthers’ Levi Flora late in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory for Brazos on homecoming night.
Demny finished with 191 yards passing and Gaston was on the receiving end of 102 of those yards over five catches. Junior Bryan Maldonado caught a pair of passes for 38 yards receiving.
The Cougars move onto a road trip to Van Vleck this Friday where the Leopards just fell to 2-1 in district play with a 24-0 loss to Tidehaven last week.
