Bellville Volleyball Head Coach Susan Brewer accomplished a feat only four other coaches have done in the state of Texas: Win 1,000 games.
Entering her 42nd season of coaching the Brahmanettes, she only needed ten wins to secure the milestone. Last weekend at the Bastrop Tournament, she came into the first day of competition needing only three more wins.
Bellville had that many chances lined up on the openeing day of the tournament with matchups slated with district foe Wimberly, and a pair of teams Brewer had never played before in Temple and Thrall.
She had mentioned that she took the Brahmanettes to the Gold Bracket in this tournament last year and wanted to get back to that position.
They got off on the right foot, earning wins in their first two matches by scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-17 over Wimberly and 25-22, 22-11 over Temple.
The work was cut out for them and took care of business, 25-8 and 25-19 to make Coach Brewer the only active member of the 1,000-win club.
Before the iconic win, she noted there had been plenty of self-reflecting going on over the last few weeks.
“I’ve been very blessed to have been coaching for this long and all at Bellville as well,” Brewer said. “I’ve had the daughters of mothers who won state championships for me and thankfully no granddaughters yet,” she finished with a laugh.
Brewer mentioned she saw an outpouring of support from former players at their first home game and carried those good feelings into the Bastrop Tournament where they finished with an 8-1 record and a Gold-Bracket finish, exactly where she wanted to end up.
