After bouncing back from back-to-back losses with its first district win, Bellville suffered a setback against Giddings in Week 2 of District 12-4A play and will look to get back on track against 0-2 Caldwell.
The Hornets will return home to host the Brahmas after two losses on two road trips to Giddings, 21-7, and La Grange, 25-15, that dropped their overall record to 2-5.
Bellville has compiled a 20.2 point per game average with its 4-3 overall record but has allowed an average of 19.5 points per game. Caldwell’s highest point total on the year came in a 44-36 loss against Rockdale and overall owns a 17.1 point per game average.
All six teams in District 12-4A have played two games against each other so far and Giddings and La Grange sit in first at 2-0, followed by Bellville and Smithville who are both 1-1. Caldwell and Royal have both yet to win a game and own 0-2 records in district play.
The Brahmas got on the board first against Giddings thanks to an 82-yard run from Robert Briggs, although he finished the night with 75 yards on three carries. Richard Reese was the leading Bellville rusher with 131 yards on 13 carries with a long of 55.
Brahma quarterback Jake Lischka finished 6-of-16 passing for 80 yards including a 23-yard touchdown connection to Briggs early in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to 21-16 although the ensuing two-point conversion failed.
Justin High led the way with 20 total tackles, Garrett Babylon was next with 18 and added a forced fumble then it was Logan Cruz with 14 and Dalton Bills with 12.5, two of which came behind the line of scrimmage. Grayson Mays made five Bellville defenders with double-digit tackles, registering 11 total tackles although it was not enough to keep the Buffaloes off the scoreboard once a quarter, making the final score 30-16.
