Austin County families took advantage of getting an A-plus jump on health at this year’s “Back to School Health Fair” which was sponsored by the Department of State Health Services and Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County.

This year’s backpacks were sponsored once again by the generosity of Woodmen Life (Patricia Knapp) in Sealy. In addition, Montgomery No. 106 and the Pride of Brookshire No. 96 provided school supplies for each backpack. On the day of the event, 330 youths and adults came through the doors of the Sealy High School. More than 250 backpacks with school supplies were given to families with students registered in Austin County schools and Met Head Start.

Families were provided with the opportunity to visit with a host of health-related services at no cost in preparation for school. The Sealy Independent School District provided many volunteers and vendors (47) who were essential in making this event such a success.
