The Austin County Fair and Rodeo joins forces with the American Cancer Society each year on the Friday of the fair using the program Tough Enough to Wear Pink to raise money for cancer research education and patient services.

The Austin County Fair Association donates to the Austin County Unit of the American Cancer Society $1 for anyone wearing pink on the fairgrounds between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. Approximately 753 ribbons were distributed on Tough Enough to Wear Pink Friday, Oct. 11.

The Austin County Fair Association presented a $1,000 check to Vernice Luhn at its January board meeting. The Austin County Fair Rodeo Committee also presented a check for the American Cancer Society - Austin County Unit in the amount of $1,000. The donation was made possible from the cowboys at the rodeo on Friday night who wore pink.

The Rodeo Committee gives $50 to each cowboy who wins a Friday event and is wearing pink. Cowboys then can donate the money back to the American Cancer Society.
