Austin County 4-H held its annual Awards Banquet at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Frydek to honor the outstanding performance of their 4-H members for the 2017-2018 year on Aug. 18.
There were more than 115 in attendance and after the invocation was given by Grace Lischka, a roast beef meal catered by Ben Pustejovsky of Ben's Chuckwagon was served. Numerous individuals were recognized for their participation and success in 4-H events while representing Austin County in competitions at the County, District, State, and National levels. Team recognitions included National Livestock Quiz Bowl Team, State Beef Quiz Bowl, Shooting Sports, Food Challenge, Dairy Judging District Winners, Duds to Dazzle, and Wildlife.
Star Award Winners included: Gold Star – Hunter Spacek & Madison Makowsky who delivered speeches on “What 4-H Means to Me,” Silver Star – Hudson Ham, Bronze Star – Blake Makowsky, Rising Star – Jacie Menefee and Lane Locke.
Hunter Spacek was also awarded The Gideon Linceum Master Naturalist Scholarship and the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association Scholarship for his leadership, volunteerism, community service, and participation within Austin County 4-H.
Each year a vote is cast to determine Leader/Volunteer of the Year. Leader of the Year was awarded to Melissa Burke for her selfless dedication to 4-H and its members. Friends of 4-H Awards are awarded to businesses and individuals that helped grow and support the 4-H program throughout the year. This year’s individuals were: Candi Havemann and Barbara Bartels. This year’s recognized businesses were Tractor Supply Co., Bellville Lions Club, and Brookshire Brothers.
The 2018-2019 Austin County Council Officers were introduced to the audience and completed the first of many future duties and responsibilities. Council Officers include: President – Mackenzie Burke, First Vice President – Hudson Ham, Second Vice President – Reagan Burke, Third Vice President – Hunter Schumann, Secretary – McKenna Burke, Treasurer – Kaitlyn Witt, Reporter – Grace Lischka, and Parliamentarian – Lanie Kelly.
