Sealy High School hosted the junior high tennis district championships Monday and Tuesday of last week and came away with a few top-place finishers on their home courts.
At the seventh-grade level, a boy double and mixed double pairing both took third from their playoffs. Daniel Barrera and Kevin Koeppen represented the Tigers’ boys’ doubles team and Audrey Deville and Shamar Taylor were the ones taking bronze in the mixed doubles tournament.
In the girls’ doubles competition, the top spot went to an eighth-grade pairing from Sealy. Trinity Anderson and Deanna Cash made their way through each step in their bracket and met with a Sweeny pairing to decide who takes the crown, and it ended in favor of the Lady Tigers, 6-3.
Also competing for Sealy in seventh grade were Madison Curtis, Grace Eschenburg, Trinity Harding, Abby Magee, Emmy McDaniel, Isabell Osbun and Daisy Arriaga.
Representing the Tigers from eighth grade were Danielle Bailey, Makala Joiner, Jacob Biberstein, Seth Pine, Josh Steffens and Nikolas Young.
The championship tournament also signaled the end of the tennis season as the athletes now move onto their next sport before finishing school later this month.
