Nine earn academic all-state

Nine Sealy High School student-athletes were recently honored by the Texas High School Coaches Association and the Texas Army National Guard with academic all-state distinction. Five tennis athletes and four Tiger soccer players cracked lists that were split up into four levels: Elite, first team, second team and honorable mention.

However, recent legislation has opened the door for college student-athletes to benefit monetarily from their name, image and likeness through marketing opportunities.

The Sealy Tiger soccer team found the end of the road in the Area Championship after a 5-1 loss to Waco La Vega last Tuesday. With the end of the season also came the release of all-district awards and the runner-up Tigers earned multiple selections.

Dual champions

With a 5-0 win over Smithville in last Friday’s Bi-District Championship at Columbus Memorial Stadium, the Sealy Lady Tigers collected their first playoff win since 2016 and shattered another one of the team’s preseason goals.
