Sealy Police have released information following an accident in the 2900 block of State Highway 36 South, which resulted in the death of 70 year-old Nancy Cathey of Sealy.

On Friday, May 20, first responders were called to the scene at 11:41 a.m., where Cathey’s 2006 tan Chevrolet Impala was originally southbound.

The vehicle driven by Cathey crossed into the northbound lane, and struck a 2007 White Sterling truck, pulling a 2000 gray Clement trailer, belonging to Joe Banda of El Campo.

Banda was not listed by the police report as suffering injury.

Following the head-on impact, “Cathey was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace, Precinct four, Dennis King,” said Sealy Detective Sergeant Andrew Weido.

Traffic from both directions was halted and re-routed as authorities worked.

“The Sealy Police Department was assisted at the scene by Austin County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety,” Weido said.

Additionally, the Sealy Volunteer Fire Department and Austin County EMS assisted in initial emergency operations.
