A group of local young baseball players got their first taste of the big leagues this month when the Visual Predators – made up of players from Sealy, Bellville and Eagle Lake - were named the 11U Baseball national champions.
The Cat Spring-based team, managed by Jeff Brandes, put Austin County on the map in Super Series Baseball last week when they brought home a World Series final’s game win and national championship.
Team members are Michael Davis of Bellville, Reed Langton, Clay Roberts and Jared Brantly, all of Sealy, Brennan Brandes of Cat Spring, Cole Rasbury of Sealy, Riley Gott of Eagle Lake and Justin Eckhardt, Drew Firkus and Jared Kainer, all of Sealy. Coachces are Cliff Langton, John Kainer and Jason Kainer.
The boys met 13 of the top teams in Super Series Baseball age group in Burleson at the Chisenhall Sports Complex to battle it out. The Predators played seven games in five days, going undefeated on strong defense, pitching and timely hitting. The championship game was played against Heroes Blue from Dallas, as a pitching duel ensued with few runs given up in early innings.
The tide turned in the latter with more timely hitting and a shut down closing performance by the tournaments 11U MVP Justin Eckhardt of Sealy and a win 4-1.
Every player had their moment during the tournament to help the team reach its goal coupled with a strong nucleus of positive parental and fan support.
The team wishes to thank all who have helped along the way, as it’s has always been about the ride not the destination.
