Council cancels Harvest Festival

Body
After a recommendation from the city staff, the Sealy Harvest Festival was canceled during the Oct. 18 Sealy City Council meeting. “We had approved this previously and (Sealy City Manager) Kimbra (Hill) got some follow up details that maybe at this time it’s not appropriate for us to move forward. Hozak hangs up scissors after 31 years

Body
After 31 years of cutting hair on the Sealy landscape, a barber icon is putting up his scissors to move on to retired life. Alan Hozak has retired from cutting hair at his location of Fowlkes Street. “I had a lot of good times cutting hair in Sealy. I made a lot of good friends and customers along the way. I cut hair of people when they were kids and now they are grown men. They went from sceaming while they were getting their hair cut to just talking about everything while I cut their hair,” Hozak said. “I ended up with more friends than customers.” During his time cutting hair, he has seen a lot of Sealy’s movers and shakers come into his barber shop and take a seat in his chair.

Governor Greg Abbott celebrated the one-year designation anniversary and the Dr. Kenneth Mattox Trauma Unit dedication ceremony for DHR Health’s Level 1 Trauma Center in Edinburg. Prior to DHR Health’s designation, the closest Level 1 Trauma facility was 240 miles away in San Antonio. “Texans will now have access to worldclass, comprehensive trauma care in the Rio Grande Valley, thanks to local leaders and the healthcare professionals at DHR Health for earning this Level 1 Trauma Center designation,” said Governor Abbott. “The new trauma facility is a crucial step in building a safer, healthier future in the Rio Grande Valley, and I am proud to be here today to honor such a tremendous individual in dedicating this center to Dr. Kenneth Mattox.”
