Council approves pool discount

The Irene LeBlanc Swimming Pool in Sealy is offering a discounted promotional price for family season passes until June 19, and June 18 will be the “trial run” for a new third Saturday farmers’ market, as both were approved by the city council June 7.

Hillary Kotwal, who runs Graze and Peace as a dietary mission, and the First United Methodist Church are staying busy blessing Sealy in numerous ways. The new community garden on the church property is already providing fresh produce, such as tomatoes, and Kotwal’s newest mural design was recently approved by the city council for near the garden.

Burn Ban in effect in Austin County

June 13 the County Commissioners Court issued a Burn Ban for Austin County, which includes all combustible materials outdoors, such as trash, brush, and open campfires. Welding and other work-related activities are only allowed under specific conditions.

Family pool pass discount ends June 19

Brazos School Board works toward weight room project solution

The Brazos Independent School District board members revisited the proposed weight room and concession stand construction project at a special meeting May 25. The board had originally voted against awarding a bid for the project during a special meeting May 4, due to the $2.6 million cost of the project in the bid which had been recommended to them by a committee appointed to rank the bids received.

There are certain people in life that tend to do so many things all at once it makes you question, just where on earth do they find all that time? For Sealy High School graduating senior Emmy Sue McDaniel, that time is something she’s made the most of. A member of the Lady Tigers’ running cross country team, tennis team, a 1st Lieutenant Sealy Tigerette, FFA program member showing livestock, scramble heifer participant, dairy cattle judge, Austin County Fair Queen pageant contestant, youth gymnastics coach and future meteorologist, the real question is: what doesn’t Emmy do? Described by her grandmother Sonja Talbot as someone who “loves life,” McDaniel has always pushed herself academically, as well as strived to be a part of whatever she set her mind to.

Authorities arrest man after crime spree

Austin County authorities arrested a Sealy man April 9 in connection with a series of crimes in the area. Joseph Mesa, 35, of Sealy, was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery (first degree felony), deadl y con duct (third degree felony), aggravated kidnapping (first degree felony), aggravated assault with a deadly weapon (second degree felony), attempted murder (second degree felony) and interference with an emergency call (class A misdemeanor).
