The Sealy Chamber of Commerce held its annual Banquet at the Sealy Knights of Columbus Hall, 1310 Hwy 90, May 20, 2022, from 6 to 9 p.m., and the hall was packed with local politicians and other V.I.P.s for the event.

Sealy City Council performed the official canvassing of the votes for propositions one through five regarding City of Sealy charter amendments, which were approved by voters in the special election conducted on May 7, and officially adopted those changes into the city charter.

The unofficial results for the May 24 election have been announced. The only Austin County race in this election was a run-off for the Republican candidate who will run to be the Texas State Representative for District 85 in November.

Voters chose Stan Kitzman, who received 8,134 votes, over incumbent Phil W. Stephenson, who received 5,891 votes, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office. The newly elected candidate was formerly a Waller County Commissioner.

On Tuesday, May 17, the Austin County Sheriff’s Office received a call for service regarding the possible location of stolen property at 3449 Oil Field Road, in Bellville.

The owner of the stolen construction equipment was in contact with Fort Bend County Sheriff’s investigators, who eventually contacted the Austin County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival at the location, Austin County Sheriff’s deputies immediately located the stolen equipment.

A multiple vehicle accident involving a school bus took place today, May 18, just after 4 p.m. on State Highway 36, a few miles North of Sealy.

Persons involved were transported via Emergency Medical Services from the scene. Parents were arriving at the scene to pick up their children.

The Wallis KJZT #22 senior and junior members cleaned the Grotto at Guardian Angel Church in Wallis on Saturday, May 7th. That same evening and the following morning the juniors held a bake sale outside of the church to raise funds for scholarships and upcoming projects. They also sold raffle tickets for camp, which will be held in Ledbetter, TX June 26th -29th, where the raffle winners will be announced. The Austin County Retired Teachers Association is awarding three scholarships to local Austin County high school graduates this year. The scholarships were initiated in 2015 when the association began supporting local students interested in pursuing the teaching profession. This year’s recipients are graduates from Bellville High School, Brazos High School, and Sealy High School.
