Drought hurts trees, economy in Austin County

Body
Despite rain chances last week, very little rain fell in Austin County and the area remains in a severe drought. Local fire departments responded to several grass fires over the Independence Day weekend, despite the burn ban. However, not all effects of the drought are quite as obvious. Although rain chances for the end of this week and next week could bring a little relief, local residents should take heed of how much their trees and the economy suffers in these conditions.

Sam Houston announces spring 2022 Dean’s List

The students listed on the Dean’s List of Academic Honors at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a grade point average of at least 3.5 out of a perfect 4.0 in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours. The university would like to recognize the following students for earning the honor for the Spring 2022 semester.

The students listed on the President’s Honor Roll at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours. Lions Sealy Dance Club, July 2 The Lions Sealy Dance Club is holding a dance on Saturday, July 2, at the Sealy American Legion Hall with Blue Denim providing the music from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Guests are always welcome.

Sealybration begins July 8

As expected, the annual Sealybration festival will take place on Sealy Business and Professional Women Park grounds (B&PW) from July 8 to July 10. The event will feature live performances from Cody Johnson, Bag of Donuts, Michael Salgado, Step Rideau, Earl Thomas Conley and others, as well as having plenty of food, entertainment, and beverages for those in attendance to enjoy.
