Local wins Houston Rodeo scholarship

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials announced the 493 students who received a scholarship from the organization’s educational program, and Austin County student Connor Krenek is among them. These scholarships are part of the Rodeo’s $14.1 million in scholarships and total annual commitment of more than $22 million in educational funding and are awarded to students across the state of Texas.

The City of Sealy Health Inspector has inspected the following establishments for food preparation, kitchen cleanliness, and sanitary conditions. MAY 26 Hinze’s Barbecue, 2101 Highway 36 S.: Items must be six inches off floor; once cooked food meets proper temperature for storage, food must be covered; all electrical outlets must be wiped down, free from grease; need to follow approved thawing method.

Healthy Lawn workshop offered June 10

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s Healthy Lawns and Healthy Waters Program will host a residential rainwater harvesting and turf management training on June 10 for Austin and Washington Counties. The training is being offered in collaboration with the Mill Creek Watershed Partnerships and is hosted by the Austin and Washington County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

The new community garden on the church property is already providing fresh produce, such as tomatoes, and Kotwal’s newest mural design was recently approved by the city council for near the garden.
