TxDOT announces transportation plan

The Texas Department of Transportation has adopted a 10-year statewide roadway construction plan with a record $85 billion price tag, officials announced last week. The Unified Transportation Plan authorizes the distribution of construction money that is expected to be available during the next decade. Within that framework, TxDOT works with elected officials and local planning organizations, as well as the public, to pick and fund the state’s highest priority transportation projects.

Despite not taking place on a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean, the luau-themed dinner event held by the Wallis Chamber of Commerce Saturday, April 27, was a success, complete with a hula dancer performance and a “who’s who” of prominent Austin County figures in attendance. The Wallis Columbus Hall, located at 703 Columbus Road, was filled with local politicians and business owners, including Austin County Judge Tim Lapham, Tax-Collector Assessor and Election Official Kim Rinn, County Commissioner Precinct 4 Chip Reed, and Wallis City Council Members Melissa McFarland, Bernadette Parr, and Joell Prado.
