Voters around Austin County are hitting the polls for the March 1 Primary Elections that will locally determine a commissioner and house representative spot.

After early voting ended last week, election-day polling locations are open until 7 p.m. Tuesday. Stay tuned to sealynews.com and The Sealy News’ social media pages for results as they become available.

TRAIL RIDE ARRIVES

The Salt Grass Trail Ride – the oldest and original trail ride for promoting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo – made its way through Austin County Feb. 19-21. Initially organized by Pat Flaherty, Reese Lockett, E.H. Marks and John Warnasch, the trail ride dates back to 1953.

Martinez earns first chair in all-state band

Sealy High School's Wyatt Martinez was named the first-chair trumpet for the Association of Texas Small School Bands’ Class 4A All-State Band.

It is Martinez’ second time qualifying for the all-state band and it marks Sealy’s second first-chair all-state honor in program history.

The ATSSB All-State concert will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at 9:40 a.m. at the Lila Cockrell Theater in the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

Clark, Krenek add all-state honors

Sealy’s Connor Krenek (utility) and Thomas Clark (linebacker) were honorable mentions on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 4A All-State team released Friday morning.

Krenek was District 12-4A’s utility player of the year and Clark was a first-team all-district wide receiver and linebacker for the Tigers. Krenek represented Sealy on the THSCA first-team academic all-state and Thomas Clark landed on the second-team academic all-state.
