Burn ban in effect

A burn ban is in effect for Austin County due to dry conditions in the area. Actions prohibited include burning any combustible material outside of an enclosure that contains all flames and sparks. If burning trash in a barrel, citizens should observe wind speed and direction, monitor the burning and not walk away from the site, keep a water source and hose near at hand and stay with the fire until it is completely extinguished. A form must be filled out for those who choose to burn trash or other items and may be obtained from the county judge’s office or any county commissioner. Violation of the burn ban is a class c misdemeanor punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
