Deadline to enter Fair Queen Contest is Friday

The Austin County Fair Association has announced that candidates may register for the Queen Contest until Sept. 19. The contest, which keeps getting bigger every year, is open to girls who are at least 15 years of age, who are single and are a resident of Austin County or are enrolled in an Austin County school district.

Any business place, organization or individual may sponsor a candidate for the Queen Contest. The entry fee is $100, and these funds provide the candidate float in the Austin County Fair Parade, as well as trophies for the contest.

Each candidate is required to sell at least $1,000 worth of advance gate tickets and/or season passes. All candidates selling at least $2,500 worth of tickets will receive a $50 gift.

The Fair Queen and Ticket Queen will receive scholarships of $1,000 each upon entering college or a career school. The Fair Queen Runner Up and Ticket Queen Runner Up will receive $500 scholarships.

The Austin County Fair Queen is the official representative of the fair and shall act as hostess at all fair functions. She is also designated as a representative of Austin County to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

The Fair Queen Contest will be held on Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Austin County Fair Convention and Expo Center.

For more information or to sign up, call the Austin County Fair Office at (979) 865-5995.
