SPD names theft suspects

Two men have been charged with the unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after allegedly being involved in the theft of area vehicles, according to Sealy Police Chief John Tollett.

Raysoun Herron, 17, of Sealy was booked into the Austin County jail on $100,000 bond Wednesday after being charged.

Jermaine Palmer, 18, of Sealy was also charged in the thefts, with a bond set at $100,000. He remained a fugitive as of The Sealy News’ press time yesterday morning.

“He’s a local around here,” Tollett said. “I don’t know if someone is hiding him out.”

Tollett urged anyone who knows Palmer’s whereabouts or with information to contact the SPD. The suspect is a black male, who is 5 feet 11 inches in height, weighs 150 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

“We’re looking for him, and he’s the last one we need to get hooked up,” he said.

Late last month, six vehicles from both the Houston area and Sealy area were stolen and left in Sealy.

One of the vehicles was found under a bridge in San Felipe and had been torched, Tollett said. Police detected no major damage to any of the other five vehicles.

“We think they were just using them for joy rides or looking for a way of alternative transportation,” Tollett said.

To break the case, law enforcement officials sat down in a group and brainstormed a plan.

“We executed that plan, and it worked very well,” Tollett said. “We were able to identify the actors and apprehend many of them. It’s just this one last person we need to get into custody.”

The department is also working on a case involving stolen four-wheelers from the Virnau Tractor dealership along Interstate 10 in Sealy.

“We don’t know if it was an act of opportunity where (the suspects) where (the suspects) where going down the freeway and decided to steal them,” Tollett said. “We’ve still got a lot of work to do. We’re working with the county, and we do have some suspects in the case.”

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call the SPD at (979) 885-2913 or the Austin County Sheriff’s Department at (979) 865-3112.
