| By MARY HOGAN, Staff WriterAt 1:30 p.m. on a summer afternoon, the halls of Sealy High School are alive with students bringing plays to life, memorizing lines, acting out characters and finding the right props. It’s all part of the high school’s student-lead theater camp held this week for younger students. Throughout the week, 70 actors in the making practice their parts in classic fairytales like “The Little Mermaid,” “Annie Oakley,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp” and “Peter Pan.” For some, the experience is all about having fun during the long summer months. “I like to act, just because it’s fun,” student Mariah Holub said. Others see it as an opportunity to learn a new art. “I really like to act and learn new things,” student Katie Daub said. To help students learn new things, high school theater students broke each play up into segments, using games to help teach the art of acting. For student Blake Mieth, that added to the fun he had at camp. “I like that you get to do fun games,” he said. “And you get to be in a real theater.” Shandi Nelson hoped to gain some insight from the high school theater students. “I wanted to come to the camp, because I like to act and it’s a good experience for high school,” she said. Student Alana Lozano likes to act, but also felt the camp had helped her to be more outgoing. “It’s a good experience for not being shy,” she said. All of students’ hard work and practice will culminate in a performance for their parents today at 3:30 p.m. in the SHS auditorium.
