San Felipe Town Council Candidates Seven running for alderman The Sealy News has compiled a list of candidates running for office on the San Felipe Town Council. Included in this section are candidates' responses to a questionnaire about themselves. BILL HARTT Name, years in San Felipe: Bill Hartt, five years List your accomplishments relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: I have no accomplishments in public service, but as a citizen that loves the town, I have the will and desire to make some changes in our community and make sure the voices of our citizens are heard. List employment or community organization affiliation relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: I am a supporter of the San Felipe-Frydek Volunteer Fire Department. I currently have one son who is a member and two sons that are junior members of the department. My wife and I are members of the Sealy Band Boosters. My family and I are members of Simonton Community Church. What qualities would you bring to the San Felipe City Council that make you the right choice: I am a community-minded, hard-working, Christian father and husband desiring to protect our small town and its citizens. Why have you decided to run for a place on the San Felipe City Council: I would like to boost police department equipment and resources and help our volunteer fire department have the tools needed to protect our town as the population of Austin County continues to grow at a rapid rate and the expansion from the Katy area continues to our area. It is important to also capitalize on the historical value of our community while still maintaining the small town feel that many of us moved here to find. What is the top challenge facing the City of San Felipe and how do you plan to address that challenge: It is critical that the police and fire departments have all necessary resources to continue to protect and support the growth of our community. It will be important to increase the support and funds to both departments for their current needs and to ensure the continual expansion of both departments so they are able to continue to meet the needs of our growing community. I have lived in the Town of San Felipe for 10 years. List your accomplishments relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: Supported the on-going efforts to pave streets in the Town of San Felipe. Supported the Stephen F. Austin Park Association for the Town of San Felipe. Supported the purchase of equipment for the street department. Supported the need for an increase in personnel for the San Felipe Police Department. List employment or community organization affiliation relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: I have served as Assistant Pastor for the past seven years at the Bethel Baptist Church in Sealy, Texas. I have worked for CONOCO Phillips for the past 31 years. I am currently serving on the Board of the East Side Foundation. What qualities would you bring to the San Felipe City Council that make you the right choice: Honesty and a desire to represent all the people. Why have you decided to run for a place on the San Felipe City Council: I care about our town and I want the best representation for all our citizens. What is the top challenge facing the city of San Felipe and how do you plan to address that challenge: Unity with the town officials and citizens is the top challenge. I would address this challenge with better communication between town officials and citizens. KENT MCALLISTER Name, years in San Felipe: Kent McAllister, two-plus years in San Felipe List your accomplishments relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: I was a construction manager and I managed large municipal projects for the City of Houston where I had to deal with the Houston city council, the mayor's office, local civic organizations and the citizens who lived in the affected area that we worked on. I'm familiar with the communications between the city, the public works department and the community. List employment or community organization affiliation relevant to serving on the San Felipe City Council: I have 20-plus years of experience in construction engineering and construction materials testing of municipal construction projects. I have owned a company that employees over 60 employees for five years. The company performs the installation of underground utilities, water sanitation systems, and drainage and detention and flood control systems for municipalities and developers. What qualities would you bring to the San Felipe City Council that make you the right choice: I'm an honest, open person who's able to work well with others to get things done. Why have you decided to run for a place on the San Felipe City Council: I'm unhappy with the current administration and the secretive nature of the current city council. What is the top challenge facing the city of San Felipe, and how do you plan to address that challenge: There are three things I think are a problem in the town. The first is the secretive nature of the city council. I'm unhappy with the relationship between the city hall and the citizens and with the treatment of the citizens. The second challenge is creating a standardized permit process that's equal and fair to all citizens. Last, I'd like to deal with drainage and with resolving some of the drainage issues. Have the time to serve daily. Why have you decided to run for a place on the San Felipe City Council: Due to the Attorney General's investigation of the San Felipe City Council, I feel there is a need for change on the San Felipe City Council What is the top challenge facing the city of San Felipe and how do you plan to address that challenge: 1. Proper drainage 2. Better permit procedure 3. More open government to where you can ask city hall/city council a question and not be denied an answer because of the question
