Antique festival to feature Texas dealers By MARY HOGAN, Staff WriterThe popularity of the annual Brenham Antiques Festival, now in its 13th year, has increased over the years, with organizer Marilyn Stellberg anticipating between 1,000 and 1,500 people attending. The festival will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Brenham. Shoppers will be able to find anything from formal and country furniture, to glass, china and pottery. Dealers will also be selling vintage jewelry, sterling silver pieces, antique toys, vintage linens and quilts, paintings, old dolls and dollhouse items and other collectibles. Crafts and new items will not be for sale at the show. "Our show has a good mix of antiques and collectibles for every type of collector," said Stellberg, who organizes the event for Rural Texas Antique Shows. "We have well known, quality dealers from all over the country." Shoppers will be able to select items from a variety of local dealers, as well. "With gas prices so high, most of our dealers are from Texas this year," Stellberg said. The popularity of the show hinges on shoppers getting to hunt for their treasures away from the bustle of the city. "Most of our clientele enjoy getting away from the metropolitan hub-bub of Houston and Austin and coming to an appealing small town environment such as Brenham or Cat Spring, where we also put on shows," Stellberg said. About 40 antique dealers will showcase their wares at this year's festival, which also includes a meal catered by the Knights of Columbus. "Another reason the show is popular is the food," she said. "The KC men cater the lunch at the show, with a good menu for travelers." Meals and snacks are available both days. Admission to the event is $5, with collectors 12 and under admitted free.
