Decorating contest to light up holidays By TRACY DANG, Managing EditorThe Santa's Sealy Specta-cular Home and Business Lighting Decoration Con-test will be held again in conjunction with the Sealy Fantasy of Lights. Those who want to enter the contest must call Chairperson Lara Compton at (979) 627-7701 and leave a name, phone number and physical address by Dec. 9. "This year we're including businesses in the contest," Compton said. "Last year we noticed a lot of businesses were very well decorated, but we couldn't include them. This year we're opening it up to any business interested in participating. Hopefully, we'll have a lot of entries." The home or business must be located within the city limits, and apartments are eligible as long as long as they are visible from outside. Judging will take place Dec. 10-12. The judges for this year's contest are Sealy Mayor Russell Koym, Steve Compton, Faye Hintz and a student from Sealy High School. The student judge will be the winner of the competition to design a poster to advertise the contest. Last year's winner was Ethan Byerly. Posters are being judged at the high school the week of November 26. The winners of the Santa's Sealy Spectacular Home and Business Light-ing Decoration Contest will be contacted Dec. 13. Cash prizes will be provided to the home winners by TRC Companies, Inc. of Houston with $100 going to the first-place winner, $50 going to the second-place winner and $25 going to the third-place winner. Winning businesses will receive trophies. "We want as many homes and businesses entered as possible," Compton said, "and we'd like to see folks get creative with their decorations."
