Semper Fi presents former Nam POW

The Semper Fi Society is meeting at the Sealy American Legion Hall Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. Former prisoner of war Claude D. "Doug" Cower is the guest speaker

Clower, a retired commander in the U. S. Navy, was born, raised and went to school in Mississippi. He earned two engineering degrees from Lamar Univer-sity and a master's degree from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif.

Clower spent 20 years in the Navy, flying mostly in fighter F4 (Phantom) and F8 (Crusader) aircrafts. He had about 900 carrier landings, of which 200 were at night.

He was shot down Nov. 19, 1967 near Haiphong, North Vietnam and spent 5 1/2 years as a prisoner of war. He was a senior ranking officer for five of those years.

Clower was released March 17, 1973 and has received 34 metals, including two Silver Stars, the Legion of Merit, Distin-guished Flying Cross, five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.

Clower retired at the rank of commander and spent 27 years in the oil and gas engineering and construction business.

He and his wife Maurine reside at the Clower Farm in Bleiblerville.
